| Michael Palin's great escape ![]() A previous series took Palin to Kenya Michael Palin has been "Around the World in 80 days", travelled "From Pole To Pole" and most recently he's crossed The Sahara. This morning, he came in to the Breakfast studio to tell us all about his latest adventure: a trek across the Sahara to Timbuktu. We began with a clip from the first episode of his new TV series, in which he tries to teach a Tuareg tribesman from the Sahara how to say "bottoms up" in English. "Going across the Sahara was a real challenge," Palin told Sophie and Dermot. "I wanted to know how do you cope when there's only one tree in one hundred miles and the food is very simple. "It's a very basic lifestyle. The Tuareg take camel trains across the Sahara. "It's a simple life - absolutely different from how we live here. The rules are: stay out of the sun, eat in the morning and the evening and move on." We also held an interactive forum, where we put some of your questions to Michael Palin. This has now ended and a recording will be available later this morning. |
