Letters from the Palace.
Prince Charles at a rural show
Prince Charles is a great supporter of rural life
When details of Prince Charles' prolific letter-writing to ministers leaked earlier this week it stirred up a question as old as parliament itself.

The small matter of how actively the royal family should get involved in political matters.

  • This morning on Breakfast we talked to Prince Charles' biographer Penny Junor.

"The world has gone quietly mad," she told us this morning.

"Prince Charles has every right to get involved and we should be very grateful that he has."

Penny Junor believes that the row about Prince Charles is a smokescreen to deflect attention away from Sunday's massive countryside march in London.

"He wrote private letters which he never expected to be published.

"I think he was doing his constitutional duty in some ways."
