Hidden costs of holidays
Holiday makers on Spanish beach
The summer holidays are over - autumn is setting in, so obviously it's time to start planning your next break.

But there's a warning this morning that some of the bargains advertised in holiday brochures may not be as good value as they seem.

Breakfast's Max Foster talked to Simon Calder Travel writer for the Independent.

The Consumers Association says new style holiday brochures are making it harder to work out the real price of a package holiday.

Three of the big tour operators have divided holidays into various levels in the summer 2003 brochures.

It means people could find themselves paying extra for meals on the plane, transfers to hotels, pre booked seats and so on.

Max Foster outlined some of the findings from the Consumer Association report:

So what do you get for your new `basic' Thomas Cook holiday? If you want to eat on the flight - you'll need to pay 8 or 15, depending on how far you're going. If you want some headphones - that'll be another 2.75. If you want to pre-book your seats, it'll be 10/15 for an adult. And if you want a return coach transfer - 15. If you want to change your flight, date or accomodation, it'll set you back at least 110 On top of that you can only take 15kg of luggage, you have to check in 2 hrs before the flight and you won't know where you are staying until you arrive.
