MPs have debated whether the creation of hybrid embryos which combine human and animal elements in the hope of finding treatments for certain diseases.
MPs rejected a cross-party bid to ban hybrid embryo research in a free vote.
They also voted down an attempt to ban the testing of an embryo to establish whether it could provide a tissue match for a brother or sister with a serious medical condition, or so-called "saviour siblings".
