Thousands of supporters of Iran's defeated presidential candidate Mir Hossein Mousavi have marched through Tehran, as the unrest over disputed election results continues.
The opposition protesters defied a ban to hold their rally, which had officially been called off over fears of clashes with supporters of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad - a declared winner of last week's poll.
Foreign journalists have been banned from leaving their offices to report on events, but images have been emerging from the country.
Correspondents say the media restrictions show how much the authorities have been taken by surprise by the scale of the protests.
Earlier on Tuesday, thousands of pro-government demonstrators attended a rally in the capital to show their support for the president and to condemn foreign media.
Some of the protesters are thought to have been brought in by bus from the countryside, where Mr Ahmadinejad has wider support than in the capital.
The rallies were held as Iran's powerful Guardian Council said it was ready to recount some of the votes from Friday's poll.
Demonstrations have been held at Iranian embassies in a number of cities around the world, denouncing a crackdown on the opposition and showing support for Mr Mousavi.
Amateur footage has also emerged showing pro-government militia apparently firing at opposition demonstrators in Tehran on Monday. Eight people were killed during the rally but authorities blamed the violence on "thugs".
Despite the unrest, Mr Ahmadinejad (third left) travelled to Russia for a meeting of regional leaders, where he was congratulated on his victory by his counterparts but made no reference to the protests himself.
