Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's bid for re-election as president of Iran this week has generated an electrifying contest the like of which the country has not seen for years, correspondents say.
Women supporters of Mr Ahmadinejad's main rival, Mir Hossein Mousavi, turned out in force on Tuesday for a rally at Tehran's Haydarniya Stadium.
The women supporters sported the green colour of their candidate's party.
A little girl at the rally held up a potato inscribed "We don't want a potato government".
Male Mousavi supporters were out on the streets of the capital on Wednesday evening.
Mr Ahmadinejad had his own supporters, whose campaign has sought to be as vibrant as Mr Mousavi's.
Ahmadinejad supporters brandished his photo at a football match against the United Arab Emirates.
Late on Wednesday night, supporters of both candidates mingled peacefully on Tehran's Valiasr Square in a festive atmosphere, correspondents say.
