President Obama has said he expects Israel and the Palestinians to show gestures of good faith within the next few months in order to revive Middle East peace efforts.
After a meeting with King Abdullah of Jordan at the White House, Mr Obama said it was necessary to 'step back from the abyss'.
He said the prospect of peace still existed and he repeated his commitment to a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
