Six years after the start of the Iraq war, March 20th 2003, the country is beginning to recover from the violence that filled the vacuum that was left behind by the fall of the Saddam Hussein regime.

In Baghdad, the BBC's Hugh Sykes met a café owner, Laith Hammoudi al Amiri.

In two bomb explosions directly across the road from his café just a year ago, 68 people were killed.

He has seen his neighbourhood shift from celebration after the war, to despair during the insurgency, and now back to hope again.
