Israeli assault on Gaza continues

Heavy fighting has continued in the Gaza Strip as the Israeli incursion deepens and Palestinian casualties mount.

International pressure for a ceasefire has included an EU delegation meeting Egypt's President Mubarak but so far these efforts have had little effect.
