The emir of Kuwait has said he will take "decisive action" following a rare attack on the country's government and the ruling al-Sabah family. In a meeting with the National Assembly speaker, Emir Sheikh Jaber al-Ahmad al-Sabah expressed full confidence in Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Sabah.
The emir said he was "settling the issues in the interest of Kuwait's security and stability".
The meeting follows allegations of chaos and corruption in the government.
Committee
In an interview with Kuwaiti daily al-Qabas on 10 October, Sheikh Salem al-Sabah, the head of the National Guard, called for a committee to be set up to "support the leadership" of the emir.
The 79-year-old emir, who suffered a stroke in 2001, seldom appears in public.
Concern over his absence, and Kuwait's future leadership, was heightened when the crown prince, Sheikh Saad al-Abdullah al-Sabah, was admitted to hospital in June.
Sheikh Salem called for the committee to be comprised of himself, Prime Minister Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, the emir's half-brother, and Sheikh Mubarak Abdullah al-Ahmad al-Sabah, another senior member of the royal family.
"The situation now is chaotic and everybody is complaining about the disorder, the nepotism, the corruption and the bribery that is rife in the government," Sheikh Salem told al-Qabas.
"It is a dangerous indicator when our traditions are ignored and when senior members of the ruling family are pushed aside and decisions are taken unilaterally.
"We should work for the unity of the ruling family, because in its unity and closeness lies Kuwait's unity," he said.
