The cancellation was an embarrassment for the Arab League |
Tunisia is making moves to reconvene an Arab summit, two months after calling one off 48 hours before it opened. Arab League Secretary General Amr Moussa, who is on a trip to Lebanon, said the summit would begin on 22 May.
Fresh invitations have already been sent out by the Tunisian government, an Arab League spokesman said in Cairo.
The Tunisians caused controversy when they called off the March summit, saying some Arab states had rejected their proposals on political reform.
Many delegates accused Tunisian President Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali of cancelling it to curry favour with Washington, which has launched its own reform plan, Greater Middle East Initiative .
The League spokesman, Hossam Zaki, said it would take a few days to finalise arrangements for the summit to take place.
"You need to have the approval of a big number of countries so you need to give it some more time," he was quoted as saying by the Reuters news agency.
However, Mr Moussa was quoted by AFP as saying there was "no problem about it happening, the date or the place".
