Syria detains human rights lawyer
Leading Syrian lawyer and human rights activist Aktham Naisse, who recently organised a rare public protest in Damascus, has been arrested.

The committee he leads said he was arrested on Tuesday after being called in by military security in Latakia.

Mr Naisse organised a sit-in in March outside parliament calling for greater freedoms and an end to emergency laws.

He has spent six years in prison and has been visited several times recently by the security services.
