| Tuesday, 12 November, 2002, 00:47 GMT In quotes: Iraqi MPs condemn UN ![]() Members spoke in praise of Saddam Hussein Members of the Iraqi parliament have roundly condemned the new United Nations resolution on weapons inspections, and called on the country's leadership to reject it Saadun Hammadi - Iraqi National Assembly Speaker: Anyone who reads the preamble of this resolution, which we will discuss, knows full well that it is full of lies against Iraq.
This resolution seeks to create a crisis and paves the way for aggression instead of a peaceful solution. Salim al-Koubaisi, chairman of the National Assembly's Arab and International Relations Committee We can say that this resolution is bad and unfair in the full sense of the word. In point of fact, it has nothing to do with disarmament. It is a flagrant and insolent threat to the sovereignty and independence of Iraq, a flagrant interference in its domestic affairs, and a violation of its national security. Therefore, the Arab and International Relations Committee of the National Assembly recommends the following:
Nayif Shamdakh, Assembly member As representatives of the Iraqi people, we reject, condemn, and denounce this resolution. We support what our leadership will decide on this resolution in accordance with the higher interests of our country. We support our leadership and Saddam Hussein, may God protect him, in confronting the US hegemony until we achieve victory or die as martyrs standing up. Sa'id al-Musawi, head of the Organisations Department at the Foreign Ministry The United States resorted to the Security Council "to obtain a false legitimacy for its aggression... after the failure of all its attempts to harm Iraq, break its will, and install an agent regime, which would decide the fate of its people". The mandate given the inspection teams are "in total violation of all the internationally adopted principles not to mention their violation of the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence of Iraq". |
