A son of the Libyan leader, Muammar Gadaffi, has said he believes the Scottish courts gave a fair trial to the Libyan man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing, Abdul Basset al-Megrahi.

Speaking to the BBC, Saif Al-Islam Gadaffi, who is visiting London, said he believed it would have been difficult to put pressure on the judges.

He suggested that the Lybian legal team had not been fully qualified to deal with the case.

Last month a Scottish court sitting in the Netherlands rejected Mr Megrahi's appeal against his conviction for the bombing of a PanAm airliner over Lockerbie in Scotland in 1988, in which 270 people died.

Mr Megrahi is now serving a sentence of at least 20 years in jail in Scotland.
