Israel radio said dozens of people walked out of discussions, after the Opera's musical director asked for a performance of an aria from Wagner's "The Flying Dutchman". Works by the nineteenth century composer are widely banned in Israel, which views him as a forerunner of Nazi anti-semitism. From the newsroom of the BBC World Service |
