Clashes have broken out in East Jerusalem between Palestinians and Israeli security forces.
Palestinians have been angered by the rededication of a synagogue close to the al-Aqsa mosque and by Israeli settlement plans.
Israeli security forces responded to stone-throwing with stun grenades and tear-gas cylinders.
The militant group Hamas had declared Tuesday a "day of rage" against the synagogue move.
The Israeli police said they had deployed 3,000 officers across the city.
Some Palestinian leaders had called on protesters to defend the al-Aqsa mosque area.
Protesters were also involved in clashes near Jerusalem's Qalandia checkpoint with the West Bank.
