More than 900 people have been rescued from a ferry which sank in the southern Philippines.
The SuperFerry 9 began listing to the right at 0230 on Sunday (1830 GMT Saturday).
A rescue operation began immediately - helped by good weather and the presence of other vessels in the area, off the Zamboanga peninsula.
A number of children were among the 847 passengers making a journey from General Santos to Iloilo.
The captain tried to correct the list, but found it was irreversible and gave the order to abandon ship to distraught passengers.
Officials said that those rescued were transferred to navy ships, two nearby civilian vessels and other smaller boats which had responded to the Mayday call.
