Fans around the world celebrated what would have been Michael Jackson's 51st birthday on Saturday. A mass performance of Thriller took place outside the National Gallery in Trafalgar Square, London.
Some 12,937 people gathered in Mexico City, which organisers said was a new world record for the most people dancing to Thriller in the same place at the same time.
Fans of all ages took place in the record attempt. The mass dance in Revolution Plaza had its roots in a Facebook group that was joined by thousands of fans.
Guinness must certify whether the Mexican fans performed the entire, intricate dance routine together. The decision is expected to be announced in one week.
With the Eiffel Tower in the background, fans in Paris danced to Jackson's music and taught spectators the moves to his dances.
A minute's silence was also held for the King of Pop in Paris.
Similarly energetic tributes took place in the Bulgarian capital, Sofia.
Fans danced to his hits in the city, where Madonna performed on Saturday.
An all-day block party celebrated the pop icon's life near his childhood home in Gary, Indiana, attracting 700 fans.
Flowers and mementoes were left at the singer's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Messages were also left on the gates of the Neverland ranch in California, Jackson's former home.
Other events took place in cities including Delhi, Moscow, Barcelona, New York and Bucharest.
