Two days before Afghanistan's presidential election, a car bomber has carried out a deadly attack on a Western convoy on the outskirts of the capital, Kabul.
Children were among more than 50 people injured. Militants have been threatening to disrupt the election, Afghanistan's second since the US-led invasion in 2001 toppled the Taliban regime.
Reports suggest that some troops from the Nato-led force were among those killed and injured in the attack.
As Afghan and international forces secured the site of Tuesday's bombing, British troops signalled for people to clear a nearby road.
The bombing came shortly after rockets were fired into the presidential compound in Kabul. Other attacks were reported in the east and south of the country, despite heightened security ahead of Thursday's election.
Correspondents say the bombings are likely to make many people nervous about turning out to vote.
