In pictures: Moldova protests

Protests against the Communist Party victory in weekend elections in Moldova have turned violent, with demonstrators attacking the parliament and presidency in the capital, Chisinau.

Thousands of people gathered for a second day running to protest against the result, which gave the Communists 50% of the vote. International observers said polling was "fair".

Clashes then broke out between protesters and police.

The protesters - many of them apparently only teenagers - began to attack the parliament building.

Witnesses said crowds poured into the building through smashed ground-floor windows, hurled furniture out and set it alight.

They also attacked the president's building. Police tried to hold them off with tear gas and water cannon.

More than 30 people - both protesters and police officers - have been treated for injuries, officials said.
