The G20 summit leaders, including US President Barack Obama, met in London in an attempt to come up with a comprehensive plan to fight the recession gripping the global economy.
But a day of mostly peaceful protest had a more violent edge towards early evening as heavily-protected police clashed with protesters.
The G20's leaders � seen here in relaxed mode shortly before their formal group portrait � focused on subjects like tax havens and regulation of financial industries.
French leader Nicolas Sarkozy had earlier outlined plans to help French manufacturers that led to accusations of protectionism. On Thursday, Prime Minister Gordon Brown said the G20 was against protectionist measures.
Despite some last minute problems that required ironing out, the summit agreed significant changes to the way countries do business with each other, economics experts said.

Meanwhile, protests � including a peaceful game of giant Monopoly - took place outside the London Stock Exchange. More than 100 people were arrested people during occasionally violent demonstrations in the City.
Police did arrest the French activist Alain Robert � aka Spiderman � after he scaled the Lloyd�s Insurance Building in the City of London as part of the day of protests.
Ranks of police prevented protesters from disrupting the G20 summit at the Excel Centre in Docklands in the east of London. Security around the venue - on land, in the air, and in the Thames River - has been tight.
The policing of the demonstrations, which followed violence on City streets on Wednesday, was described as low-key, with no sign of riot police units.
A number of protests took place � including those calling for more urgent action on climate change and more effort to help the world�s poor � and those angry at alleged Chinese human rights abuses.
But the standoff between police and some of the more strident protesters turned volatile towards the early evening, with police becoming more forceful in efforts to disperse the crowd.
Elsewhere in the City, graffiti slogans remained the only trace of a Climate Change camp which had taken over the streets on Wednesday; police cleared it overnight.
