Ivorian families have been recovering the bodies of their loved ones in Abidjan's main mortuary after Sundays stadium crush. (ADVISORY: Some viewers may find the images in this gallery distressing.) Abandoned shoes scattered near a damaged gate entrance to the citys Houphouet-Boigny arena hint at the pandemonium that left 19 supporters dead at the football World Cup qualifier. Ticketless fans trying to barge into the stadium have been blamed by officials. Police tried to keep the crowds back with tear gas but a wall collapsed and panicking supporters were crushed in the melee. Many casualties were treated at the stadium as the match went ahead and hosts Ivory Coast beat Malawi 5-0. The government is to hold an inquiry and Fifa has asked for a full report. BBC Ivory Coast correspondent John James says many fans were desperate to glimpse home-grown hero Didier Drogba (pictured bottom), who is regarded almost as a demi-god in the country.
