In pictures: Floods and snowfall

After more than a week of bad weather, southern Britain has again been hit by a severe storm. This time the problem is rain and flooding. Ian Scott sent this image of his street in Old Windsor, Berkshire.

The Environment Agency has issued more than 100 flood warnings. Jim Dowle sent this dramatic picture from Chobham in Surrey. The water across this ford is usually just a foot deep.

Emergency services are very busy and drivers in some areas, such as Blackmore village in Essex, have had a difficult journey to work. In Somerset, 20 people were rescued from their cars.

Essex has been particularly badly hit. David Jackman took this picture of a car struggling through flood waters in Ongar on his way to work. The culprit is the River Roding which has burst its banks.

Another Essex resident Martin Allpress sent this picture of a crossroads submerged in Good Easter, near Chelmsford. Mr Allpress said he was snowed in last week and "flooded in" today.

Suffolk, too, has seen rivers burst their banks. Sue Crush took this picture of the overflowing River Stour in Stoke By Clare, near Sudbury.

Other parts of the UK have experienced further heavy snowfall overnight. The moon lit up this blanketed scene in Gloucestershire on Tuesday morning.

Snow ploughs have been attempting to clear roads across the Midlands, east Wales and Gloucestershire, where hundreds of homes have been left without electricity.

Some schools have been forced to close for another day, but the BBC weather centre said the worst of the rain and snow would have passed by late morning and mid-afternoon on Tuesday.
