McFly opened the Children in Need show, singing the charity's official single. As ever, Terry Wogan was in charge of the fundraising drive. Tess Daly was partnered up with professional dancer Anton Du Beke for a special edition of Strictly Come Dancing. The co-host of the BBC One show was pitted against Wogan. Wogan's dance with Flavia Cacace was described by judge Bruno Tonioli as "a good performance for radio". Former EastEnders actress Emma Barton was among the performers on the night. Welsh songstress Duffy was taking part in her first Children in Need but said she had been watching the event since she was young. Girls Aloud performed their number one hit The Promise as they joined Terry Wogan and Fearne Cotton to persuade viewers to ring in and pledge cash. More than 20m was raised on the night.
