Simon Grubb and his girlfriend were hoping for a "good day's walking" in Grassington, North Yorkshire. "The light showers turned to heavy rain and we were caught out and had to call it a day," he told the BBC News website. Charles Bretnall took this picture during a week's visit to the Lake District. "The day before we'd been walking on this jetty, but after the rainfall it was totally submerged." Charles Bretnall says the Boat House on Derwentwater in Keswick in the Lake Districk - which is normally let out - was far from desirable after the downpour. Robin Tatler's risotto van was submerged under several feet of water following showers at Innerleithen where the River Tweed burst its banks. He had been hoping to feed people taking part in a mountain biking event which was a washout. Paul Rodgers from Greenock took this picture from his front window. "The water is seven feet deep in our front garden - it's usually only a few inches after rainfall." Andreas Liesche from London was caught in the rain while walking in Eskdale in the Lakes. After a weekend spent indoors instead of outdoors he returned home detouring through Backbarrow where he snapped the swollen river gushing under the bridge. Saffron Coulthard spent four-and-a-half hours travelling between Ashton-Under-Lyne in Greater Manchester and Windermere for a day trip.
