In Pictures: Floods hit the Midlands

Two children and an elderly person had to be rescued after floods hit Woodman Road, Halesowen. About 20 properties were evacuated.

Round the corner on Manor Way, the normally busy dual carriageway through the town was closed to traffic.

In Birmingham, flash floods brought chaos to Bristol Road, which was virtually impassable. The West Midlands Fire Service handled about 400 calls in total.

Outside of the towns and cities, flooding also hit the countryside, although some people, such as these drinkers at The Talbot pub, in Knightwick, took it in their stride.

Many people were caught out by the sudden extreme weather. This car at Wooton, Shropshire, appeared to have been swept away by the floods.
