Torrential overnight rain swelled the River Garnock until it burst its banks on Friday morning The flooding affected several built-up areas in North Ayrshire including Glengarnock and Kilbirnie (pictured) Many people in Kilbirnie woke to find flood waters lapping at their front door Local businesses were also hit. These industrial units off Knoxville Road faced a frustrating day The police station in Kilbirnie had to be evacuated after flood water poured through the main entrance Even the local fire station did not escape the effects of flooding brought on by torrential rain Fire crews were called in from surrounding areas to help local people and help drain flood water The flood waters began to recede by mid-morning but fire crews maintained a presence to help with the clean-up operation
