The Batmobile was one of the stars at the European premiere of the latest Batman movie, The Dark Knight, in London's West End.

British actor Christian Bale returns in the lead role following his part in the superhero's previous outing, Batman Begins.

American actress Maggie Gyllenhaal drew admiring glances in this black, backless number. She plays Rachel Dawes in the film.

Bale took time out to sign autographs for fans massed behind the barriers. The film's popularity has seen it take a North American record $155.3m (�77.7m) in its opening weekend.
