In pictures: Mamma Mia! premiere

Celebrity spotting was the name of the game for Abba fans at the Mamma Mia! world premiere in London. Pierce Brosnan and Meryl Streep were among stars of the film who wowed the crowd.

The film centres around 18-year-old Sophie Sheridan, played by US actress Amanda Seyfried (pictured), who invites three of her mother's old suitors to her wedding to find out which is her father.

Streep - Sophie�s mother in the film � and Julie Walters play friends. Walters told reporters in Leicester Square that the pair had become �bosom buddies� in real life.

Abba stars Bjorn Ulvaeus, Frida Reuss (both pictured) and Benny Andersson, whose music is featured throughout, were greeted with cheers. Ulvaeus and Andersson are executive producers.

The Abba men are joined by actor Tom Hanks and his wife Rita Wilson as executive producers of Mamma Mia! Hanks praised Ulvaeus and Andersson as �diabolical geniuses�.

Extra colour was provided by Colin Firth's wife Livia Giuggioli, wearing a yellow smiley face dress. Firth, who plays one of Streep's suitors, said singing in front of Ulvaeus and Andersson was terrifying.
