In pictures: Refugee crisis

Damascus city

Thousands of Iraqi refugees have travelled the road to Damascus, escaping the anarchy of Iraq. These pictures by Angela Catlin will feature in an exhibition in Glasgow to mark Refugee Week

Hands over face

Zeinab Aboued Allah left Iraq for Damascus with her family after her 10-year-old daughter, Zahraa, died in a bomb blast. She lost her right leg in the explosion

Fam

Housein Aboued Allah holds two of his young children tightly. The family was too afraid to give their real names or show their faces for fear of repercussions

Clowns

Each day hundreds of children arrive in the UN Refugee Agency reception centre in Damascus. Some are severely traumatised. The clowns are a short respite from their harrowing memories
