In Pictures: Portrait of a carer

Brenda and Alice, by Hannah Hills

An exhibition at Chatelherault Country Park in South Lanarkshire is celebrating the lives of carers and the people they look after. "Brenda and Alice" is among the portraits featured in "24 Hours" by Hannah Hills.

Helena and Lisa, by Hannah Hills

The photographs will be displayed next to explanations by the carers. Helena said of her daughter: "Lisa has cerebral palsy but she does things that other teenagers do."

John and Murdo, by Hannah Hills

John said: "Murdo has had learning difficulties since birth and we look after him at home as he cannot manage on his own. We cannot do anything spontaneously as Murdo's care has to be organised in advance."

Lesley and Darcy

Lesley said: "Darcy has severe autism with associated learning difficulties, but attending mainstream school has been very good for her as she has lots of role models."

Amna and Avais, by Hannah Hills

Amna helps to look after her brother Avais. She said: "I look after him so that mum can get away and do the shopping, cooking and housework."

Bill and Russell, by Hannah Hills

Bill cares for his son Russell. "The whole family is involved," he said. "We're fortunate. If we go to meetings with social work, the whole family goes."

Nan and Brenda, Hannah Hills

Nan is blind and carer for her granddaughter Brenda who has learning difficulties. She said: "We're a team. Brenda is my eyes and I'm her brains."
