In pictures: Paraguay elections

Opposition supporters in Paraguay have been celebrating victory in the country's presidential election.

Former bishop Fernando Lugo won, capturing 41% of the vote.

His main rival Blanca Ovelar, who was representing the ruling Colorado Party, won a 31% share.

Mr Lugo's victory means a loss of power for the Colorado Party for the first time in 61 years.

Much of the population has never experienced life under another political party.

The change in power prompted rapturous scenes among opposition supporters.

Correspondents say it looks like the partying will continue long into the night.
