Ladies Day at Aintree Races

Thousands of people have turned out for Aintree's Ladies Day, one of the most fashionable events in the racing calendar.

About 50,000 people were expected at the Liverpool racecourse for the second day of the Grand National festival.

Hundreds of women took part in the best dressed race-goer competition, sporting a mixture of glamorous and exotic outfits.

Coleen McLoughlin, 22, the fianc� of footballer Wayne Rooney, was due to present �35,000 worth of prizes to the winners.

Prizes included a �25,000 car, a 10-day holiday for two in St Lucia or Barbados and a new wardrobe of clothes.

In recent years Ladies Day has become known as Liverpool day because of the high number of local people who attend.
