Devastating tornadoes have torn through the southern US, killing dozens of people and injuring many more. The worst-hit states were Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama and Kentucky. The storms flattened homes, smashed buildings and sent vehicles flying. Rescue teams are still searching wrecked homes across the region. The death toll was highest in Tennessee, where 31 people were killed. In Atkins, Arkansas, a couple and their daughter were killed in their home. Winter tornadoes are not uncommon, but officials said they were shocked by the intensity of the storms. President George W Bush has offered federal aid and will visit the region on Friday. If you have any pictures of the tornado damage you can send them to [email protected].
