US businessman Sean Clinton was stuck for days in Changsha, the capital of Hunan province in China, as heavy snow cut all transport links. On the road outside Changsha vehicles ground to a halt. Drivers had to push their cars through the snow. Few people dared venture out on the road between Changsha and the nearby town of Zhu Zhou. Chinese officials have warned of future food shortages because of damage to crops. Many shops in Changsha have shut for the duration of the freeze. Sean Clinton eventually managed to board a flight, but said that he left hundreds of people shouting to get on a plane before the next storm rolled in.
