Ray Gravell died suddenly in Spain after careers in rugby, broadcasting and acting. He was 56 and leaves a wife Mari, and daughters Manon and Gwenan. The coffin was carried in by members past and present of the Llanelli team where Gravell spent all his playing days. Mari Gravell and her two daughters Manon and Gwenan walk behind the coffin. It had been his wish that his funeral be held at the ground he loved. Rugby players from Wales' 1970s team were among the mourners. Wiping a tear from his eye, Phil Bennett sits alongside JJ Williams. Thousands of mourners paid their last respects to a man who had such a wide influence on Welsh life. Eisteddfod swordbearer Robin McBryde stands alongside the coffin. The scoreboard records the famous Llanelli victory over the All Blacks in 1972. At the end of the public service the coffin was carried from Stradey Park to applause from the thousands gathered there.
