Benazir Bhutto was in tears as she arrived back in Karachi after eight years of self-imposed exile. It was an emotional homecoming amid tight security for the Muslim world's first female prime minister. At Karachi airport, tens of thousands of supporters of Ms Bhutto's Pakistan People's Party (PPP) waited to welcome her home. Media coverage was intense in Pakistan's largest city as Ms Bhutto's supporters celebrated. The PPP had prepared a huge reception in Karachi to celebrate. This man travelled nearly 1,000 miles by bicycle to Karachi. He said the soul of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Benazir's father, urged him to come. Police set up road blocks like this one to control the massive crowds. Ms Bhutto planned to lead a procession to one of Pakistan's most important landmarks, the mausoleum to the founder of the nation, Mohammed Ali Jinnah.
