Kew's country garden in West Sussex, devastated in the 1987 great storm, is showing an exhibition of photographs of how it recovered. Gardeners and arboriculturists had to deal with 20,000 fallen or broken trees. The Christmas tree outside the 16th Century mansion was left standing but surrounded by others that had fallen. Visitors who see the Christmas tree lit up 20 years later will find no trace of the devastation left by the storm. The mansion at the centre of the garden will be surrounded by autumn colour during the exhibition. The iris dell was one of the areas of the garden redesigned after the storm. The iris dell benefited from increased sunlight which flooded into the garden after the trees fell.
