The city of Kashiwazaki was hardest hit by a 6.8-magnitude earthquake that struck central Japan on Monday. Rescuers are still searching for survivors in collapsed houses across the city. Thousands of people have had their lives turned upside down. Government emergency services have rushed to respond to the crisis. Basic utilities have been badly disrupted, and people are having to queue for clean water. The public transport system in Kashiwazaki has also been severely disrupted. Nevertheless, some are clearly trying to make the best of a difficult situation.
