At least 33 people were killed in Algiers when at least two blasts rocked the Algerian capital.

Scores died or were injured in one blast outside the government buildings in the centre of the city.

There was another explosion at a police station in the east of the city, near the international airport.

The explosion, said to have been caused by a car bombing, was heard across the city.

Government employees were injured by flying glass and debris in the blast.

The violence came a day after explosions in the Moroccan city of Casablanca after police raids on suspected militants.

The bombings were claimed by the al-Qaeda Organisation in the Islamic Maghreb, according to reports.

Prime Minister Abdelaziz Belkhadem denounced the bombings as a "cowardly and criminal act".
