Five students from Elmfield School for Deaf Children in Bristol spent a day making TV news in the lead up to School Report News Day.

Using British Sign Language, the students spent the day interviewing other deaf people about their lives.

Their teacher adapted School Report lesson plans to make them more visual for the students. They used mind maps to help them plan their news topics and questions.

The pupils learnt how to use equipment including video and still cameras.

Sophie, who had never picked up a camera before taking part in School Report, found she had a natural ability for photography.

Sophie said: "I've leant how to take pictures, I've learnt what all the buttons mean and I understood how to compose a picture."

Rebecca, who enjoys graphic design, decided she wanted to create a logo for her school website to use School Report News Day on 22 March.

Jade, who directed the shots, confidently positioned her friends in front of the camera.

Ruby overcame her nerves to interview her teacher.

The Fabulous Five - as the students call themselves - now have five reports to use in their news programme on 22 March.
