Snow swept into the Midlands prompting families in Birmingham to don winter clothes and dust down the sledges. Meanwhile the bull at Birmingham's Bullring was wearing a winter coat of snow. And the "Floozy in the Jacuzzi" outside the city council house was looking chilly. A blanket of snow has fallen across the West Midlands shutting hundreds of schools and causing major travel problems. Ironbridge near Telford in Shropshire was covered with the white stuff. Pershore Abbey in Worcestershire was pictured covered in snow by a BBC website user. While snowmen were popping up across the landscape, including this one snapped in Warwick by Mauricio Morgado. For many, such as Joseph Lomas in Sutton Coldfield, it was their first chance to enjoy the snow. This picturesque scene, at Swineholes Wood near Ipstones in the Staffordshire Moorlands, was sent in by Alan Walker. And cities were also turned into picturesque landscapes, such as Coventry as photographed by Miroslav Machacek. Back in Birmingham ice was forming on canals and a gondola was filled with snow.
