The deadly H5N1 Asian strain of avian flu has been identified at a Bernard Matthews turkey farm in Holton, Suffolk.

A three-kilometre protection zone and a 10km surveillance zone is to be set up around Holton.

Vehicles are sprayed clean as they leave the farm where the H5N1 strain has been identified.

Wild birds may have been the source of the outbreak but officials have yet to complete their investigation

This time of year is not considered to be a major migrating period for wild birds. Pictured is a dead gull near Holton.

As part of the safety measures in place people moving around the turkey farm are wearing protective clothing.

Some 2,600 turkeys have been killed by the virus and the bodies of dead birds are thought to have been taken away in lorries. Nearly 160,000 more face slaughter.
