As part of the UK-wide project, School Report, BBC journalists worked with four Manchester schools to make their own news reports. Students from Manchester Academy scour the daily newspapers and the BBC News website for 10 stories they want to see on the Six O'Clock News. BBC journalist Paul Deal discusses the choices made by the editor of The Times newspaper with the students before they select their own news stories. A Whalley Range pupil includes a story about the inflation rate in her group's selection, recognising that it is of interest to an adult audience. Meanwhile, at Trinity Church of England High School, BBC journalist Nick Davis examines the definition of news and how journalists find and report it. When a Chinese whisper alters as it is passed around the room, Nick points out the benefit of gathering facts from the original source. Students gain an insight into the role of a radio presenter while watching a video of a broadcast journalist, from BBC Radio's 1Xtra, reading the news.
