The stars of the acting world were out in force at the Screen Actors Guild awards in Los Angeles. Leonardo DiCaprio lost out to Forest Whitaker in the best actor category. America Ferrera continued TV comedy Ugly Betty's run of success by claiming another success in the best actress category. Dame Helen Mirren is hot favourite for an Oscar for her role in The Queen but also won a SAG award for TV miniseries Elizabeth I. Another TV series to win was medical drama Grey's Anatomy, which took the award for ensemble acting on TV. Screen legend Julie Andrews, star of Mary Poppins and The Sound of Music, was presented with a lifetime achievement award. Hugh Laurie won an award for his role in the TV medical drama House, which also took a Golden Globe earlier this year. Drama Little Miss Sunshine, about a dysfunctional family who take the youngest child to a beauty pageant, has become the surprise hit of the year and took the ensemble acting award. Eddie Murphy and Jennifer Hudson both won supporting awards for the musical Dreamgirls, which tells the story of a female trio's rise to fame.
