The 64th Golden Globe Awards have been held in Los Angeles, with Dame Helen Mirren and Bill Nighy among the winners. Dame Helen won with Elizabeth I and The Queen, but Dreamgirls - with Beyonce Knowles - took a best film honour. The Globes cover film and television, and the team behind Ugly Betty celebrated two awards for their hit US comedy. The best actor in a drama film was Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin, while Sacha Baron Cohen won a comedy prize for Borat. Babel, co-starring Brad Pitt, was up for seven awards but ended up with only one Globe - best dramatic film of 2006. Hugh Laurie was accompanied by the cast of TV sci-fi drama Heroes as he celebrated his Golden Globe for House. Martin Scorsese was best director for The Departed, having won a Globe in 2003 with Gangs of New York. Best foreign language film was Letters From Iwo Jima by Clint Eastwood, also nominated twice in the best director category. Among the celebrities attending the ceremony in Beverly Hills was Jack Nicholson, accompanied by his daughter Lorraine. Eva Longoria saw Desperate Housewives lose out in the best TV comedy category, with Ugly Betty winning instead. Steven Poliakoff's Gideon's Daughter won two TV awards, including a Globe for Emily Blunt as best supporting actress.
