Long-running BBC Radio 4 soap opera The Archers is to broadcast its first "gay wedding" this month.

Characters Ian Craig (left) and Adam Macy will enter a civil partnership after two-and-a-half years together.

The couple must wait to see if Adam's stepfather, Brian Aldridge, goes through with a threat to stay away.

Fans have already heard Ian going through the ordeal of telling family members about the relationship.

There will also be a further plot twist involving two other characters who are thinking about tying the knot.

The wedding ceremony can be heard on the edition of the programme broadcast on Thursday 14 December.
