Thousands gathered in Havana's Revolution Square to see the military parade marking the 50th anniversary of Fidel Castro's return from exile.

They were joined by Cuban revolution veterans who turned out in force to wave the national flag.

Fidel Castro's younger brother Raul led the ceremonies.

Tanks rumbled through Havana during the military display in Fidel Castro's honour.

Another prominent revolutionary figure honoured was the legendary Ernesto "Che" Guevara.
