Hundreds of supporters have begun filing past the coffin of Chile's former military ruler, Gen Augusto Pinochet, in the capital, Santiago. Gen Pinochet, who ruled Chile for 17 years, was a divisive figure whose death on Sunday sparked emotional scenes. His followers gathered outside Santiago's Military Academy to await the arrival of the coffin carrying the general's body. But his opponents took to the streets to celebrate the demise of a man who was accused of dozens of human rights abuses. Gen Pinochet's family including his son, Marco Antonio Pinochet (R), and his sister, Maria Veronica (L), attended a wake for the late leader. There will be no state funeral or period of national mourning. Gen Pinochet will be buried with military honours on Tuesday.
