The remains of ex-Argentine President Juan Domingo Peron have been moved to a new mausoleum outside Buenos Aires.

Tens of thousands gathered in the capital as the former leader's coffin was taken in procession.

There were highly emotional scenes for a man who remains a huge influence in Argentina 32 years after his death.

Peron was an idol for the poor and many of those attending were from unions.

Some hope the reburial at the mausoleum in San Vicente will spark new moves for the remains of his second wife - known around the world as Evita - to join Peron there.

But Tuesday's procession was marred by violence at the mausoleum in San Vicente, 40km (25 miles) south-west of the capital.

Police fought with rival union factions apparently angry over access to a lavish reburial ceremony.

Dozens were hurt in the clashes at the mausoleum in Peron's weekend estate.
